It is my guess that the company in question, some of you already guessed who, is actually trying to clear some ground in case they may want to sell their cable subsidiary.

Let's face it, at some point a cable and internet company may top out on value in the face of OTT video and fiber networks like Google. You can make the case that for some of these companies, their value may not be any better in the future than it is today.

With that being said, if you donate a sizable sum to the charity owned by the potential president of the US and that charity has a history of collecting dollars for good in exchange for favorable government treatment, that raises some eyebrows.

So, let's say that you want to sell your big cable company to an even bigger cable company and you don't want federal regulators to get in the way of the sale....

So how does this impact CR and the ACC Network? Well with less big players in the market for distribution rights, it will underscore the all or nothing negotiations that will take place between ESPN and Comcast, Charter, AT&T/Direct, and Dish. If you get those four at the price you want....you win. You get as much cash as the SEC and the Big 10. Less players = high stakes negotiations!
